It's mid-January, and you've already broken your new year’s resolution, now what? Maybe you've resolved to lose 20 pounds this year, exercise every day, or quit drinking. And — so far — you have failed. So you give up. Sound familiar? Follow along with Health expert Tamara Quaddoumi to find out what you can do after you have broken a resolution for the new year.

1. Don’t beat yourself up about it!

Life isn’t perfect and so are you. That’s what makes us special.

2. Identify the problem

Instead of this mistake throwing you off, focus on trying to identify the reason why you did it in the first place and don’t despair, mistakes are our best friends. We make them all the time and learn new lessons from them.

3. Small vs. Big Goals

Most of the time we fail because we set big goals and focus on the bigger picture instead of setting small achievable goals along the way. For example, if your resolution is to lose 15 kilos; set a specific timeline with goals and deadlines for yourself so you can celebrate your success by losing 5 kilos in 3 months and another 5 in 6 months.

4. Progress & Accountability

Remember that all this work is for and not for anyone else. You have nothing to prove to anyone except yourself.

5. Focus on your intentions

Some days you will wake up with no motivation or drive to do anything besides the bare minimum if any. Remember that this work you’re putting in is all for you and your wellbeing. Remember your intentions and that discipline will get you there.

6. Laugh it off

Life is not meant to be taken so seriously. One of Tamara’s favorite analogies is “Life is a rocking boat, sometimes it tilts to one side or the other, but what’s important is that you have the awareness to keep going.” Whatever your resolution is, get back on that boat and tackle it gently.

How do you motivate yourself to stay on track for your new year's resolutions? Let us know! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Mint Basil Market team.
